1. The Peranakan Museum
The only museum that showcases the arts and culture of a distinct ethnic group that was shaped and continues to influence Southeast Asia. The Peranakan, which means “locally-born” in the Malay language, usually refers to the descendants of Chinese traders who settled in the straits Settlements of Singapore, Malacca and Penang in the 14th century and married Malay women. The Peranakans also include those who descended from unions between Indian merchants and local women during the 15th century. This intermarriage produced a fusion of cultures, and is reflected in the colorful cuisine, architecture and fashion that form the multicultural mix of Singapore and Malaysia.
2. Singapore Art Museum (SAM)
With over 7,000 Southeast Asian pieces of artwork in its permanent collection, SAM stands as the region’s repository of visual art. The collection includes paintings, sculptures, multimedia installations, drawings, prints and photographs – eye candy for those who can’t get enough of modern and contemporary art.
3. National Museum of Singapore
This is custodian of the 11 National Treasures – the most important artefacts in Singapore’s history. It includes the Last Will and Testament of Munshi Abdullah, the Father of Modern Malay literature, the 1930′s era Chinese glove puppet theater stage and a collection of watercolor paintings of local floral and fauna commissioned by William Farquhar, the First Resident of colonial Singapore.Visitors interested in Singapore’s history should also go to the museum’s Four Living Galleries – a showcase of artefacts, replicas, pictures, costumes and even old films that document the history of Singapore fashion, performing arts, photography and cuisine.
4. Asian Civilisations Museum (ACM)

5. Singapore Philatelic Museum
The museum that appeals to the child in us, as who after all didn’t have a stamp collection when they were kids? The museum’s collection includes stamps and archival philatelic material of Singapore from the 1830′s to present day. The museum also encourages philately in Singapore, with its permanent galleries not only dedicated to the global history of stamps, but also organizes workshops and talks on how stamps chronicle Singapore’s history.

When you’re traveling it can be difficult to find good food at reasonable prices especially if you happen to be staying in a big city that has an established food and restaurant culture. When you’re faced with a budget, you want to try and maximize your enjoyment per buck. If you want to eat well and sample the local cuisine for a budget price, you’ll need to do a little research to find that perfect restaurant that offers a balance between quality and price.
First, check with your hotel or hostel and inquire whether breakfast is included in your stay. In Europe many hotels provide breakfast. If you’re hotel does provide breakfast, don’t skip it in favor for paying for food elsewhere. Some of my most memorable meals were hostel breakfasts that were nothing more that a roll, butter, jam and some coffee with milk. Hotel and hostel breakfasts are also a great way to get to know other guests.
One option for budget eating is to eat at a chain restaurant that you a familiar with, such as McDonald’s, Burger King or Kentucky Fried Chicken. You can find a McDonald’s about anywhere world-wide. I made my way through Rome using a free McDonald’s map that in addition to indicating all the tourist attractions had a mark for every McDonald’s in Rome. However, if you want to become familiar with the culture of the country you are visiting, eating at a fast food restaurant is not a good option.
Another option is to buy groceries and make your own food. If you don’t have a fridge or hot plate in your hotel room, this option may not be very feasible. Still, you can buy items that don’t need to be heated and make a meal out of those.

Beaver Ponds
One of Yellowstone’s shorter loop trails then wanders through both meadows and forest. Black bears and Wild Flowers usually dominate the flora and fauna of this part of the world.
Fairy Falls
197-foot Fairy Falls is one of the tallest waterfalls in Yellowstone, The longest and most scenic route starts at the Fountain Flat Drive barricade.
Grebe Lake
A trail used mainly by fishermen and backpackers, the trail goes to Grebe Lake, which make up the headwaters of the Gibbon River system. Deer and moose are oftentimes spotted along the trail and at the Lake
Grizzly Lake
Starting out in a meadow, then climbing 250 feet up a ridge and traveling through burned forest, the route offers excellent views of Mount Holmes and the Gallatin Range.
Lost Lake
An easy trail, which starts behind Roosevelt Lodge (Tower Junction) then, goes into the forested hillside, coming to a fork, going westwards to the Lost Lake which is about quarter of a mile away.
Monument Geyser Basin
This is short but steep hike, where you can see the stunning view of Elk Park meadow and the wandering Gibbon River leading to Monument Geyser Basin, a small geyser basin.
Osprey Falls
Whether you start south of Bunsen Peak on the Bunsen Peak road or north of Bunsen Peak on the other end, you will be traveling about three miles along the road to reach the breathtaking Osprey Falls Trail
Specimen Ridge
This trail takes us to the lip of the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone at the one mile point, then to east reaching the top of 9614-feet Amethyst Mountain.
Storm Point
This trail offers a good view of Yellowstone Lake, off the beaten path.
Start from the Indian Pond parking area, then drops into the tree line until you reach Storm Point.
Yellowstone River
Starts at the Yellowstone River Picnic Area and rises up to the eastern lip of the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone. There are some spectacular views of the Canyon and River from this trail.
